Planning a vacation overseas is always fun, particularly when your travel destination is the stunning country of Italy. Top tourist locations such as Rome, Florence, and the Amalfi Coast witness millions of tourists arriving within their cities while affording plenty of activities to do throughout the year. Quite often, it can be challenging to find out when it really is the best time to visit Italy and its most visited cities to avoid those large crowds, as well as the extremely hot weather that summer brings.
The Renaissance mecca of Florence is one of those top destinations that ranks high for being a popular place to visit while in Bella Italia. And, rightfully so. With premier museums, stunning art galleries, and magical gardens to wander around in throughout the city, Firenze is the hotspot of cultural activities for everyone, and the spring season offers visitors a host of museum-hopping and sightseeing opportunities that should not be missed.
To Find the Masters of the Renaissance, Head to Florence
While in Florence, one should not miss visiting the world-renowned Uffizi Gallery in the city’s historic center. This highly popular, larger-than-life art museum is home to some of the most famous Renaissance paintings, stunning sculptures, and incredible architecture known throughout the world. It’s so popular, that during the summer months, numerous lines form with people waiting to get inside its doors, wrapping around several city blocks. But head over in the spring, when the weather is quite pleasant and tourist season has yet to ramp up, making getting into the Uffizi Gallery far easier and a much more enjoyable experience.
Another heavily popular tourist destination is the Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace). Home to several museums and galleries, this architecturally sound palace was home to the Medici family in the 15th and 16th centuries and two other very prominent royal families thereafter. With fewer crowds in the spring season, visitors have the opportunity to take in everything the palace has to offer without queueing in lengthy lines during scorching summer temperatures.
Springtime in Florence is Just Breathtaking
Make your way to the back of the Pitti Palace, and visitors come face-to-face with one of the most enchanting Italian Renaissance gardens in Tuscany: Boboli Gardens. Spring brings blossomed flowers that fill the air with their intoxicating fragrances, and vibrant colors. The landscape is pristinely manicured and lush with green foliage, and the temperature during springtime makes it the perfect time to visit these magical gardens, spending the day comfortably under the Tuscan sun.
To take in the entire city of Florence and all her glory, make your way up Oltrarno Hill to The Bardini Villa and Garden or walk the famous Viale dei Colli up the San Miniato hill towards Piazzale Michelangelo where you’ll be marveled by the stunning, panoramic views of the Birthplace of the Renaissance, and the whimsical cascades of wisteria all around you. Delightful spring temperatures and a clear blue sky filled with sunshine create a leisurely and amazing experience of sightseeing, fantastic photo opportunities, and enjoying Florence’s famous landscape as far as the eye can see. For an even more memorable experience, make sure to stay as the Tuscan sun sets below the horizon, watching in awe as Firenze alights in deep, rich colors of red, orange, and yellow hues that will take your breath away.
